FIVE DECADES OF UNIQUE POWERBOATS
EXPERIENCE THE EXCLUSIVE YACHTS OF FJORD
BOATS WITH A VIKING GENE
At the end of the fifties, at a boat show somewhere in Germany, Alf Richard Bjerke is captivated by his experiences. The British and Mediterranean boat building tradition fascinates him as much as the possibilities of new GRP materials. Bjerke had the idea that the world was waiting for another boat building culture: the Norwegian one. It should be as robust as the Vikings, reliable and honest, seaworthy and strong. Her fitting name: FJORD. In 1960, Alf Bjerke and Finn B. Roer founded Fjord Plast and brought Jan Herrmann Linge onto the team as product developer.
EUROPE’S TOP SHIPYARD
The three Norwegians immediately hit the nerve of the time with the Fjordling. The successor models were also popular with boat lovers. FJORD grows rapidly and leaves all other European motor yacht shipyards behind in the early seventies. The broad range includes various model series: the open Weekender as well as the spacious Cabin Cruiser or the sporty Dolphin yachts. The sedan flagships come even in a fly bridge version.
THE TERNE ERA
At the end of the eighties, a new concept became established at FJORD: Terne – the GRP boat in a classically elegant wooden boat look. Their characteristic side windows and large cockpits quickly make the open day cruisers the very essence of Scandinavian boat building culture. With the Terne, FJORD is focusing for the first time entirely on an exclusive clientele. The 21 to 28 foot long models were built very individually with great attention to detail – and therefore not for everyone.
SUPERIOR YACHT DESIGN
After the turn of the millennium, it’s time for a new vision. FJORD retains the traditional Scandinavian attributes and expands the focus to the pure experience under the sun. High-profile, international collaborations create the new design with an open layout and outdoor pantry. Patrick Banfield brings the savoire-vivre of Ibiza, HanseYachts its advanced manufacturing technologies. The result is a superior powerboat with high-performance engines, elegant design and top quality – Made in Germany.
